Make room for the new year and all its goodness by getting rid of all the clutter, dust and mess from last year.
Here few to-dos and tips to get you sweeping in the right direction.
Before laying your hands on a dustpan and brush, you need to eliminate clutter.
First things first, where are you going to dump the stuff? Since everything can’t go in the same bin, get ready with a few designated containers, such as a box for charity, a box to store away items and a garbage bag for rejected things. Go from room to room, rummaging through stuff and tossing items into their respective containers.
Ladies, sometimes we need to be hard on ourselves for our own good. If you haven't worn that outfit in over two years, the chances are you might never wear it again. It is time to let it go. Remember, fashion keeps on changing, that's why you need to get rid of last year's clothes to make room for this year's collection.
Clutter has scientifically been proven to create stress and depression. Turn this room into a haven of relaxation this year. Rotate and flip your mattress. Discard worn out bed sheets and duvet covers. Wash mattress pads and bed skirts. Get your pillows professionally cleaned, or freshen them up with the air cycle of your clothes dryer. Make this a room you want to spend time in.
Clear the Kitchen
Here comes the hectic bit. I know we all dread this but we must go through it for the sake of hygiene. For a spotless kitchen, clear out the pantry, cabinets and drawers. Vacuum and wipe them with a damp tea towel. Line them with shelf paper, newspaper or kitchen roll. Just like your clothes, get rid of equipment or cookware that you don't use. If you don't have the heart to part with it, then store it away. Bin stale spices and old ingredients. Chances are they won't do the dish any good. And while you are it, clean up the refrigerator and freezer as well.
Dirt be gone
Most of us have squeaky clean floors and toilet bowls but haven’t even thought of the dust in the sliding door tracks or the fingerprints on the light switches. In operation dirt be gone we are going to banish last year’s dirt. The interesting part is you get to use all those funky attachments that came with your vacuum cleaner! Some places to attack would be windows tracks, door frames, ceilings, drawers, behind the refrigerator, etc. For tough dust and stains, use an old, dry toothbrush to loosen debris, then suck it up with your vacuum hose and finish with a wet sponge.
Hire a furniture cleaning company to clean your carpet, sofa and mattress every 12-18 months or do it yourself by renting a deep cleaner or buying a professional-style model designed for home use. Wipe off leather furniture with a special leather cleaning spray and a soft rag. Refresh wooden furniture with a fresh coat of wood polish, but if you aren't really sure of how to get about it, just hire a professional. Get the curtains and drapes dry-cleaned. If they aren’t dirty enough, simply vacuum them or put them
