We’ve gathered a few tips to help you keep you cool as you stay out of the sun. Read on and enjoy it!

We humans are active during the daytime and so we are bound to come into contact with the sun sometime during the day. Yes, the sun is good for you, but like most other things, only in moderation. How do you protect yourself from overexposure to sunlight?

  1. Wear SPF sun protection daily
  2. Wear daily sun protection year-round, whether or not you plan to be in the sun. It is advisable to use a sunscreen with both UVA and UVB protection and an SPF of 15 or higher.
  3. Stay out of the hot sun
  4. Avoid the sun when it is at its strongest, especially from 10 am to 4 pm. Do not venture out into it unless completely unavoidable. A good indicator of these hours is the length of your shadow. If your shadow is shorter than you are indicates that the sun is directly above you and you’re more likely to burn.
  5. Keep skin under cover
  6. Help protect skin with clothing like pants, long-sleeved shirts, wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses. Keeping your skin out of contact with the sun is the best way to protect it
  7. Seek the shade
  8. Standing in the shade works like an SPF because it prevents you from getting full sun exposure
  9. Be aware of reflective surfaces
  10. Water, snow and sand can reflect up to 85% of the sun’s rays. Stay away from them as much as possible when the sun is at its peak.
  11.  Check in with your dermatologist
  12.  Make sure to visit your dermatologist for regular skin cancer screenings.
